Fenner Wray Architecture

Considered houses, extensions and renovations, designed around how you live

Selected work

Houses and extensions

Three kinds of project we take on, and how we think about each.

New-build houses

Houses on difficult sites—sloping ground, tight constraints, views to frame or difficult neighbours to consider. Design that reads the land first.

Extensions

Reworking how a family uses their ground floor. Careful addition that respects what's there.

Renovation and conservation

Sensitive intervention in older buildings. Honest repair, respectful addition, materials and detailing that belong to the building's own time.
How we work

Our approach

Site and light

Every design begins with understanding the place—its orientation, the path of the sun, views, drainage, the character of neighbouring buildings. Light and how it moves through rooms guides everything that follows.

Honest materials

We choose materials for durability and how they age. Brick weathers to character. Good timber darkens over decades. Stone improves with time. Buildings that are built to last, not built to look finished on opening day.

Efficient building

Design that's thoughtful to construct and economical to run. Careful planning, considered detailing, and passive strategies for heating, cooling and light mean buildings that are a pleasure to live in and straightforward to maintain.

Start a conversation

If you're considering a new house, an extension, or bringing an older building into the next generation, we'd like to hear about your project. The first step is a no-obligation conversation about what you're thinking, the site, and how you want to live.
